Bridezilla’s Revenge

More Nuptial No-Nos

Still worried that your behavior is out of line? Sometimes even the most balanced bride can get a little unhinged. Here are a few more examples of what happens when brides go bad, along with advice on how to keep your cool when the stress becomes too much:

Bachelorette blunder.

The Bridezilla Way: You want your last night out as a single gal to be amazing. So you tell your maid of honor that you want your bachelorette party to begin at an upscale restaurant, followed by dancing and drinks in the city’s most expensive nightclubs. The only problem is money. But what could be more important than celebrating you?

The Right Way: It’s not your role to commandeer the planning of your bachellorette party. Leave the details to your Maid of Honor, and allow her to choose activities that she and your other friends can comfortably afford. If you have your heart set on an evening of luxury that stretches your friends’ budgets, gently offer to treat your friends to drinks or dinner. Or go along with their plans as is, and satisfy your inner-celebrity some other time.

Chastising the chef.

The Bridezilla Way: As a diehard foodie, you want your wedding menu to be perfect. After four weeks of deliberation with the caterer, you finally reached a consensus. But then you find out about guests suddenly going vegan, or others with food allergies. Suddenly the menu isn’t looking so delicious after all. So you call up the caterer five times a day demanding that he accommodate some last minute changes. After all, that’s his job!

The Right Way:
Your caterer is a professional and should be treated as such. A caterer should listen to your ideas about the menu, but you need to give them a reasonable amount of time to fulfill your requirements. If a guest tells you about an allergy or food preference at the last minute, don’t try and change the menu. Instead, plan in advance to have several options so that everyone will be able to find something to eat.

The fair-weather bride.

The Bridezilla Way: You’ve been dreaming of a sunny summer wedding for as long as you can remember. You’ve checked the forecast and there isn’t a cloud in sight. But when the big day dawns, you wake up to the sound of thunder and pounding hail. You’re so distraught that you can barely stop crying before the ceremony and you cut the reception short to sulk alone in your hotel room.

The Right Way:
Don’t be such a drama queen! Even with the best planning in the world, your wedding day may not go exactly as you expected. Just go with the flow, and try to see the silver lining in any clouds that might come along. Like the fact that many cultures consider a rainy wedding day to be an omen of good luck and a successful marriage!
