Planning Your Wedding in Arizona’s Capital Make no mistake, Phoenix is hot! Arizona’s capital city (and the fifth-largest United States city) doesn’t just rise above the 100’s in summer, it’s the second-largest-growing metropolis in the country, after Las Vegas. If you’re planning on a Phoenix wedding, you’ll have so many cool options the heat will be generated from the two of you. In addition to spas and hotels galore, Phoenix is known for its healing powers—perhaps this is the place to get Mom and Dad to stop quarreling about your seating chart! The nearby Sedona Vortex is the New Age center of the world, where, should you be lucky enough, you’ll spot a UFO. Whatever your spiritual beliefs, it’s a plain fact that the arid landscape is breathtakingly beautiful. Should you want a “break” from the local sights, arrange an overnight trip (or honeymoon), to the Grand Canyon, about five hours away. Phoenix is known for its plethora of first-class Mexican restaurants, and you and your senoritas should make a point to go out for at least one margarita night during your wedding planning. Vast development has also brought cuisine in from all over the globe, so food options abound. Museums and galleries are bountiful, as are local clubs that are a little bit country (Buck Owens is from these parts), a little bit rock and roll (so is Steve Nicks), and a lot of in between. Whether you’re getting married in one of the world-famous resorts or in a public park, your transportation choices are pretty much limited to vehicles of the four-wheel kind. (Buses ease the hubbub in central Phoenix.) Most resorts will offer car and shuttle service, so call in advance to find out your options. Summer is prime heat time, with May through September temperatures averaging around 100 degrees. Although sunshine hits Phoenix 85% of the time, summer’s when you’ll see the most thunderstorms, and possibly a tornado. Fall and Spring are a more comfortable 80 to 90 degrees, while winter weather averages in the 60’s and 70’s. Now that you’ve decided to marry in Phoenix, start your search for the best wedding ideas, and be prepared to rise to the occasion! -David Toussaint
