Philadelphia Wedding Transportation
Getting to Your Philly Wedding in Style

Philadelphia freedom feels even more like love on your wedding day, and getting to the Land of Liberty in style is half the fun.  Whether you’re driving past the Liberty Bell, Betsy Ross’s house, or Independence Hall, you and your closest will need proper transportation to get to your Philly house of worship on time.

You want to take care of your transportation needs about 3-4 months’ prior to your ceremony, and about 6 months’ prior if you’re getting married during prom season (March - June). Stretch limos are the most common wedding vehicles in Philadelphia—perhaps because the city has a chic yet traditional flair—and cost around $500 for the day. Many variables factor in, such as a sun roof, unlimited champagne, etc. You can also go other routes, such as classic cars, Hummers, even buses. There will be a passenger limit on whichever type of vehicle you choose, so figure out ahead of time your wedding head count of those who need transportation.

Wedding etiquette dictates that the bride travels with her bridesmaids and Dad. The groom has a separate car which he shares with his best man, and the moms get their own car. None of these “rules” are written in stone, however. Choose a bus or Hummer and take the whole gang in one vehicle, then, after the ceremony, ride off with your groom in a limousine.  When interviewing wedding transportation providers in Philadelphia, ask about discounts for extra cars. You also might save some bucks if you employ their services for pre-wedding parties. Once you pick your car, make sure it’s the color you requested (don’t assume you’ll automatically get a white limo), and ask to see the vehicle to make sure it’s in mint condition. Remember, too, that non-white limos are often cheaper.

To find wedding transportation providers in Philadelphia, get referrals from friends and your other wedding vendors. The City of Brotherly Love has a small-town feel and good wedding vendors know other good wedding vendors. When interviewing, get referrals from previous clients, and check with the Better Business Bureau for complaints.  Once you’re ready to sign on the dotted line, go over the basics. Make sure the car you’ve picked will be the same vehicle on your wedding day, go over the drivers’ attire (he’ll need to look formal if it matches your affair), and find out who the substitute driver is should a last-minute emergency occur. Check to see if gas is your responsibility or the company’s.

When you’re ready to start interviewing, check out OurWeddingDay.com's Philadelphia Local Vendor section for a great list of top Philly wedding transportation providers.

Tipping your driver is a must, and 20% is the expected amount if the service is exceptional.  The best man often takes care of gratuity, but any member of the wedding party can be assigned this duty.  Make sure your driver has a clear map of all destinations. Also, exchange cell phones numbers (including at least one person who won’t be in a vehicle). You should also give the driver a landline number, in case a battery dies, or you’re wedding is located somewhere that has poor cell-phone service.  Follow these tips and you’ll be riding high in the city of your wedding love!
