Blow-Off Wedding Planning Stress

Do you feel like you'll scream if you have to go over the guest list one more time? Are you secretly wishing you had just decided to elope? These tips will leave you stress-free and fresh-faced for your wedding day.

Get physical.

Studies have shown that exercise helps you relax by increasing your endorphins. So don't skip your workouts in order to fit in an extra trip to the florist - even a half-hour session can help you reenergize and unwind. You don't have to be a gym bunny to reap the benefits either! Go on a quick walk during your lunch break, or sign up for a weekly yoga class. Spending a few minutes each day stretching or meditating can also improve your mental and physical health.

Get personal.

With all the wedding pressure, it's easy to forget to take time to bond with your fiancé. Plan an evening to reconnect and to remember why you decided to get married in the first place! Make a reservation for a special night out or go to a country fair, movie, or play together. If you're not up for an outing, just make an effort to spend some time with one another at home. Whatever you do, make a rule against all wedding conversation until the evening is over.

Get pampered.
Pampering yourself is a great way to take a mental vacation from work and wedding stress. Book a day at your favorite spa, and schedule soothing facial treatments and a long massage. If wedding expenses are already stretching your budget, a quick manicure or pedicure can help restore your tired hands or feet. You could also treat yourself to an at-home facial with your favorite products and lotions! Ask your fiancé to give you a massage (and then promise to return the favor…).

Get private.
Sometimes you just need some time to yourself. Schedule a timeout to go to a movie alone or to relax in a cafe with a book and herbal tea. Be sure not to neglect any hobbies that help you unwind. Attend an art class, work in your garden, or write in your journal. Volunteering is another way to shift the focus away from your problems while making a positive impact.

Get professional.

If you're having a very large or complex wedding, the details may be too much for you to handle alone. Give yourself a break by enlisting friends to help or by hiring a skilled wedding planner. Still upset? If you find that worry over the wedding is inferring with your daily life, you may need to see a counselor or therapist. Planning your wedding and preparing to make a lifetime commitment to your fiancé can be very stressful. Sometimes a professional can help you work through your fears and concerns. If you don't like the idea of a therapist, your minister, friends, and family are also good resources.
