Your Groom’s Cufflinks

There was a time when cufflinks were as standard as putting on a tie. Nowadays, your groom might never have worn them before your wedding. As such, they are even more special for the big day, and add a handsome addition to his outfit.

There is no specific requirement about how to choose cufflinks. If your spouse is wearing a tux, they will probably be included in the rental (ditto for the men in the party). However, you can always give your hubby cufflinks as a groom’s gift; it’s a beautiful, sweet gesture, and (once you know what he’s wearing) not that difficult to choose. Gold-plated cufflinks will last forever, and are something he can pass down to his sons. Engraved cufflinks are another very popular option.

Speaking of which, your father or father-in-law might want to give the groom family cufflinks. You should honor that tradition, provided they are not little studs of mermaids he collected in the Navy. His father, of course, has first dibs, and should they both want to give him cufflinks, make sure you tell your own father the news.

Suiting up.

In general, think classy and formal. The simpler the cufflinks, the more appropriate. If your hubby is wearing a white shirt, you don’t want flashy, multi-colored cufflinks popping out of the shirt. If your wedding is a beachside affair, he can go a little flashier, choosing a color that looks great with khakis and the informal look. Fun cufflinks are trendy too; whether they’re racing cars or martini glasses. You just have to make sure they go with the outfit. Also, you can find something elegant for the groom, and give the groomsmen something a bit more festive.

As for prices, cufflinks can go for $25 or $2,500 dollars, depending on the quality. There is no price on love; it depends on your budget and how much you want to spend in that area. One final reminder: Once you’ve received your cufflinks, make sure the groom practices putting them on. On the wedding day, your new Mr. is going to be almost as nervous as you are, and the last thing he needs is to be stumbling with shaky hands. Here’s a helpful hint: If he’s the kind of guy who fumbles with his tie, have his best man or another trusted friend make sure he gets the cufflinks attached.  This way, he can spend the day linked to your heart.
