Arriving in Style to Your East Texas Wedding
Like all of Texas, wedding day transportation in Houston is big business. Big limos, big Hummers… big entrance! Since you’re also in the southernmost region of the Lone Star state, you can get cozy in a convertible or saddle up the horses and head to your ceremony in a carriage. Whatever transportation you choose, read on for Texas-size tips.
Book the transportation about 4 months’ prior to your ceremony. If you’re marrying during prom season (March through June) get started 6 months’ ahead of time. The average price for a stretch limo is about $500 a day, which varies greatly, depending on the class of car, amenities, and how many vehicles you’ll need. Should your budget allow it, go for the sun roof and unlimited champagne; if you want something less conspicuous, you can always down-size to a town car.
Once you start your Houston transportation search, figure out how many people in your wedding party need transportation, and book accordingly. Discounts are often offered for multiple vehicles, as well as for cars used for any pre-wedding parties.
Common wedding etiquette in Houston dictates that the bride travels with her bridesmaids and Dad. The groom has a separate car that he shares with the best man, and the moms get their own car. None of these rules are written in stone, however. If you’re working with a planner, ask her advice, as well as ideas on different driving options. Feel free to take the whole gang in a bus if that suits your style.
Once you’ve selected your vehicle, make sure it’s the color you requested (don’t assume you’ll automatically get white), and ask to see the vehicle to make sure it’s in tip-top shape. As for cost-cutting measures, look into non-white vehicles, which are generally cheaper. When looking for car companies, get recommendations from friends and relatives, and other local Texas wedding vendors. You should also get references from previous clients, and check the Better Business Bureau for complaints.

In your contract, make sure the car you’ve picked is the same vehicle that will arrive on your wedding day. Go over the driver’s attire to make sure it fits the formality of your wedding. You also need to get the names of all drivers, if hiring more than one, as well as substitute drivers in case of emergencies. Find out, too, if gas is paid by you or the company.
Drivers should be tipped; 20% if the service is exceptional. Assign the best man or another wedding-party member to take care of this task. Your driver needs to have clear maps of all sites, and experience driving in any out-of-the-way areas. Exchange cell phone numbers (including one person who won’t be in a car), and a landline number in case batteries die or you’re in an area that gets terrible reception.
Then put the pedal to the medal and ride on love.
