If you haven’t planned a lot of catered events then you’re probably not aware of the factors that can increase or decrease your wedding catering costs. The truth of the matter is that when hiring any wedding catering services there are numerous ways to cut costs.

When
The time in which your wedding takes place can make a difference in your final bill. The reason being that that the type of food and amount of food your guests will require varies from lunch, high tea, dinner, to just hors d’oeurves. Ask your wedding caterer about the varying costs that each of these types of meals incur.

Menu
The complexity of your wedding menu will affect the cost. The more complex the menu, the longer it will take to prepare, and the more ingredients it will require.

Buffet or Plated
A buffet is typically cheaper than a plated dinner, mainly because more staff is required to serve the latter. The difference in cost comes out to approximately $5 more per guest.

Rentals
The cost of rentals depends on your venue, how large it is, and if you are responsible for the tables, chairs, plates etc and if those items will already be provided by the venue. The quality of items can increase or decrease your bill, for example it would be less costly to rent glass plates versus china. When searching for a catering service, make sure to inquire about the quality of rental items they use.
