Wedding Travel & Honeymoon Deals
Making the Most of Your Honeymoon Budget

Destination weddings and honeymoons are fabulous and fun, and they—here’s the kicker—can be affordable. Granted, if you sail away on the Queen Mary for your nuptials, you’re probably not in for a budget-conscious trip. There are, however, alternatives.

Long distances & small budgets.
Many people assume traveling and marriage equals tons of extra dough; what they often don’t realize is that destinations want you. The upside of this are wedding/honeymoon packages, which are especially popular in places like the Caribbean. Should you fly off to warm waters, you’ll find deals that include all your wedding services—officiant, food, flowers, coordinator—in one sweet deal. Plus, the honeymoon’s included! The trick is to do your research and find a hotel that has wedding-package deals. Think Disney and you get the idea. You can also do a little haggling. If that fab resort in Jamaica doesn’t offer any special offers, ask for one. Once they find out you’ll be bringing along 30 guests and filling up half the resort, they might be willing to cut the prices and give you a discount on food for the ceremony.  Another advantage of this is that you’re likely to get the best room available.

If you’re simply looking for good honeymoon deals, it’s all about the research. You can go online and compare prices, but the smart money says travel off-season. (Depending on when you’re getting married, you might have to put the honeymoon off for a bit, and that’s fine. Take a trip to the beach or the mountains in the meantime.)

Hot climates, cool rates.

Resorts cut prices up to half in the spring/summer months, and the savings can be amazing. Worried about the heat? Make sure the resort has air-conditioning. It’s not like you’re going to be spending your first days as Husband and Wife trekking down bird-watching trails. The other imperative is to tell the resort—or your travel agent—that you are on your honeymoon. Hotels rely on repeat customers, and honeymooners who fall in love with their resorts tend to go back for anniversaries. They also tend to recommend the place to friends.  The resort probably won’t offer you a cheaper stay, but there’s a great chance you’ll get an upgrade, free champagne, maybe a spa treatment or two. If these were amenities you had planned on splurging on, you could end up saving a bundle. And bundling up accordingly.
