Honeymoons in Jamaica
Planning Your Honeymoon in Jamaica

The biggest secret of Jamaica is actually quite small. It involves stopping by a roadside jerk chicken stand—you can find one pretty much anywhere—ordering up a batch for a mere pittance, grabbing a couple of beers, and having the most casual romantic meal imaginable! Honeymoons in Jamaica couldn’t be more romantic, so much so that Marilyn and Joe DiMaggio spent
theirs here, and Ralph Lauren weekends on the isle. A quick three-hour plane ride from the East Coast, Jamaica is paradise found. The two of you need only get lost in it. Lots of rain makes for green everywhere you look, and, with temperatures averaging in the mid-80s, the locals like to call it “liquid sunshine.” Behind everything, the Blue Mountains hover dramatically above capital Kingston.

Jamaica’s main cities, besides Kingston, are Montego Bay (where many flights arrive), Ocho Rios, Negril, and Port Antonio. The southern portion of the island is less-touristy, but on the up-and-up. However, you pretty much can’t go wrong anywhere you set your bags: Whether you chose a Sandals Resort or a tiny B&B, a five-star or a love shack, you’ve got it made in the shade. Here, three very different “hill” destinations. For more information, visit Jamaica.com.

Round Hill
: Located in Montego Bay, Round Hill was the chic place to be in the 1950s. Ava Gardner stopped by, and Noel Coward was usually at the bar sipping martinis with the chic crowd. Not a whole lot has changed. The main hotel is cozy and comfy, while separate villas are rented out for couples. There’s a wonderful indoor/outdoor restaurant, lagoon, and tennis. But you could spend your whole time here playing newlyweds indoors. For more information, visit RoundHillJamaica.com.

Mockingbird Hill: In Port Antonio, Mockingbird Hill is a secret delight. Nestled at the foot of the Blue Mountains, the tiny boutique hotel starts at the end of a long driveway and ends somewhere in the heavens. Tropical-flavored rooms have balconies and views overlooking the mountains or the sea. The famous Blue Lagoon is nearby, as is Frenchman’s Cove. And the onside restaurant is one of the best on the island. For more information, visit HotelMockingBirdHill.com.

Strawberry Hill: Perched 3,000 feet above sea level, Strawberry Hill is where the stars go when they want to cool down. You too, will be more than mortal when you hit the spa, relax amid mahogany-flavored rooms, or simply swim in the infinity pool overlooking Kingston. There’s not a whole lot to do here, and that’s precisely the point. You can rent bikes, tour the nearby coffee plantation, and dine on Jamaican cuisine. Chances are, however, you’ll spend most of your time nestled among the banana trees. For more information, visit StrawberryHillResort.com.
