Wedding Dress Shopping Tips

How to Find Your Perfect Gown

If you grew up wishing you could be a princess, you’ll love shopping for a bridal gown. If you grew up climbing trees and playing with your brother’s GI Joe’s, you’ll still love shopping for a bridal gown. Why? Because it’s all about you. Try these tips as you shop:

  1. From the moment you walk in as a bride to be, the bridal boutique’s staff will be at your beck and call. Take advantage of the assistance—and attention—and enjoy yourself. Dress shopping can be the most exciting part of planning for your wedding day.

  2. Wedding dresses are tailored to be long. When you try on dresses, expect them to be very long. The length allows the bridal gown to be altered to sweep the floor with any size heel. You may want to bring along heels in the same height that you’ll wear at the wedding.

  3. Wear comfortable clothes that you can change in and out of easily, especially if you plan on hitting several bridal shops.

  4. Don’t bring too many people with you. Try bringing one or two friends, or a friend and your mother. If you bring a crowd, you’ll probably have too many conflicting opinions. Your dress should be your choice.

  5. Wear makeup and wear your hair up in a ponytail or headband if you plan on having an up do at your wedding.

  6. Bring a digital camera and take lots of pictures. But remember to keep them safe from your fiancé. You don’t want him catching a sneak peek of your dress before the big day.

  7. Schedule plenty of time to shop, and space out your trips over several days so you can really enjoy yourself.  Never rush when you're shopping for wedding dresses.
