Wearing Multiple Wedding Dresses
Why Choose One? Enjoy a Costume Change on Your Wedding Day!
And you just thought you had one dress to worry about! Actually, that’s true, as there are no etiquette rules about changing outfits on your big day, and most brides do stick to “just” their gown. (The only factor is formality; if you’re having an outdoor barbecue affair, three different dresses probably aren’t desirable; ditto a beach wedding.) In years’ past, especially in Eastern cultures, brides did wear several outfits, and, more recently, a going-way outfit. These customs are no longer required, but they have their advantages. For instance, if you are marring into an Asian household, you can wear a white dress for the ceremony (Western), then go for a red outfit for the reception (Eastern). You don’t need to go crazy over prices: One formal outfit for the wedding and a more casual get-up for the reception will work wonders.
Dress you up.
Today, many brides still like to try on different outfits for different parts of the ceremony. Also, if you’re wearing a very formal ball gown, you might get uncomfortable on the dance floor doing the Chicken Dance. (Then again, many brides are so in love with their dress, they wear it till dawn.)
Another benefit of multiple outfits is based on something other than practical matters: It’s extremely glamorous. Should you opt for different outfits, opposites attract. If you’re wearing a formal dress for the ceremony, slip into a slinky cocktail dress for the reception. If it’s outside and warm, now’s your chance to slide into spaghetti straps—especially as you’ve been hitting the gym for the past six months to firm up those arms. You can still add a touch of class by wearing a white dress or suit, even gloves. Or go for the Camelot touch and don a hat. Your wedding day is one time in your life when anything sophisticated goes.
“Slip into something more comfortable.”
When you make the getaway, you can have even more fun and throw on some color! This is your exit, and signals that you’re on the way to a new beginning, and probably a honeymoon. Should you be leaving for a destination soon, don something sporty and fun. Even this outfit should be on the glamorous side, as the guests will ooh and ah over each thing you wear. Now’s the time to find that perfect pocketbook, chic scarf, and hubba-hubba husband—oh yeah, you’ve already found him.
