Full-Figured Bridal Fashions
Find the Right Gown to Suit Your Curves
Full-figured gals have no need to fret about their wedding-dresses. There are styles perfect for curvaceous figures, just as there are also gowns best to avoid. Read on for big and beautiful tips.
If you have an hour-glass figure, a ball-gown works wonders. It highlights the breasts, squeezes in the waist, and then flairs out below. Provided your wedding is formal, a ball gown is a wonderful choice for any bride, and will make you a belle no matter what your size.
Should your figure be bigger below the waist, an A-line is a great choice, as it flairs out right below the bust line. Empire Waists work wonders too, as they fall straight down below the bust line (think Jane Austin movies like Emma). An Empire Waist might look disproportionate if you’re very large-breasted; have one reliable friend you can trust to be honest go with you when trying out gowns.
Close-fitting sheaths like coliseum gowns tend to be unforgiving, so you might want to avoid these. The same goes for Mermaid cuts. If your arms are on the heavy side, forgo spaghetti straps and strapless. Remember to always accentuate the positive, so if you’ve got great legs, show them off in a tea-length gown, or a pouf skirt. If you look great in suits, by all means go for this more casual look. And use jewelry and embroidery to direct the eye where you want it to go. Also, flaunt your figure; don’t be afraid to try something daring if it makes you feel beautiful.
Curvy talk.
Do not purchase a dress that is too small and assume that you’ll be able to get rid of “a few” pounds before your wedding. Dresses can be taken in, but taking them out is extremely difficult and often very expensive. No matter what your size, the most important thing is to find an outfit you love and that looks wonderful on you. Once you understand that rule of thumb, everything else is on the plus side!
