Make Your Bridal Makeup Last

From Ceremony to Reception, How to Keep Looking Your Best

You pored over magazine photos of updos and agonized over the perfect shade of eyeshadow. You know exactly how you want your bridal makeup and hair to look when you walk down the aisle. But how will you look after hours of photos, hundreds of hugs and a night of dancing? Follow these tips for wedding hair and makeup that's beautiful from ceremony to reception.

Use primer.
You probably already know that a quality primer can help keep your foundation in place for hours, but don't forget about your lipstick and eye makeup. Layer liquid foundation and lip liner before applying lip color. A clear coat of mascara primer will ensure that your wedding day makeup look doesn't end with under-eye smudges.

Finish with powder.
When you have your wedding day makeup perfect, finish with a light dusting of translucent powder. This will make sure your skin isn't shining in pictures and keep your makeup in place.

Pack a beauty bag.
Bring your lipstick and translucent powder for touch-ups. You'll also want to pack tissues to blot - never wipe! - any tears or sweat without ruining your bridal makeup. If you're going with an updo, throw in a few extra bobby pins.

Don't overuse the hairspray.
You may be tempted to constantly add more hairspray to keep your hair in place, but too much hairspray can actually weigh your hair down and make updos sag. Ask your stylist for specific tips about potential hair touch ups for your specific hair texture and wedding day style.
