Finding the Right Bridal Gown
Bridal boutiques offer hundreds of bridal gowns to choose from. Instead of going through each one individually, narrow down your choices by determining which style fits your body type and personality.
- Begin by thinking about the shade and texture. Are you looking for a true white, off white or ivory shade? Modern bridal gowns sometimes feature colorful accents like a bright sash or flowery embroidery. Are you into classics or something more daring? Do you prefer satin or silk? Are you drawn to smooth fabric or intricate beadwork?
- Determine your body type. Whether you’re lean or curvy, wedding dresses are specifically constructed to accentuate your best assets. Have you heard of a pear-shaped body? This sort of metaphor can help you understand what your general shape is. Many dress styles are flattering to one particular shape.
- Ask the experts. Approach an associate at your local bridal shop and ask for a fitting. Even if the floor sizes aren’t right for you, the bridal shop should be able to assist in cinching and tightening the dress to approximate the right size.
- Before you shop, think about the features that are most important to you. By quickly weeding out features you don’t like—such as a detachable train or sleeves—you can narrow down your choices.
Even with your choices narrowed, be prepared to try on dozens of wedding dresses until you find the perfect one.
