Do Low-Carb Wedding Diets Work?
Consider a Modified Version of a Low-Carb Diet
If you want to lose a few pounds before your big day and are looking into wedding diets, consider doing a modified version of a low-carb diet. Here are a few reasons to eat less carbs:
- Cut Extra Calories. Low carb diets work because most extraneous calories are added in the form of carbohydrates (an extra cookie here, too much bread at a restaurant before your meal, a few too many chips, too much syrup in your Starbucks coffee, or a couple extra glasses of wine). So, if you cut down on carbs, most likely you will be cutting out extra calories in the form of sugar, white flour, and other refined carbs.
- Eat Healthier. The less refined carbohydrates you eat, the more you will be forced to eat healthier carbs such as fruit, vegetables and whole grains. Remember that you do not have to cut out carbs altogether; just eat less of them and be pickier about which ones you consume. Note: many wedding diets fall under the category of crash diet plans, but eating less sugar and refined carbohydrates is a practice you should incorporate for the rest of your life.
- Increase Protein. If you are doing strength training as part of your wedding workout, eating higher amounts of protein helps to build muscle. Lean meats such as chicken, fish, turkey, or eggs are excellent sources of protein. If you are vegetarian, low-fat Greek yogurt, low-fat cheese, cottage cheese, legumes, avocados, and nuts also provide protein.
