Antique Wedding Jewelry

Incorporating Real Classic Touches Into Your Bridal Look

The tradition of having “something old” as part of your wedding originates from an old English rhyme: "Something olde, something new,
something borrowed, something blue, and a silver sixpence in your shoe." Today, the tradition of using something old symbolizes the intermingling of the past and the present. Because wearing vintage accessories and antique jewelry is so popular, it should not be difficult for brides today to find family jewelry and heirlooms to stylishly incorporate into their celebration. Antique wedding jewelry, when paired with modern elements, gives off an effortlessly chic vibe.

Remember that you don't necessarily have to wear your “something old” during your ceremony. You can also wear a vintage piece – such as your grandmother’s cameo around your neck or your aunt’s brooch pinned to your blouse – at your rehearsal dinner, or even at your bachelorette party. Also, it usually makes your family member feel special to know you're wearing her piece.

Wedding keepsakes don't have to be strictly jewelry. You could also display a photograph of your grandparents when they were young, or a picture of your parents at their wedding (this is also great for laughs, as guests will be able to see just how much the styles have changed, even for weddings!). You could also use a pillow from childhood as the ring bearer’s pillow, drive away in an old-fashioned car, or carry a vintage pillbox in your purse.
