You want to celebrate your wedding day, but you also want be kind to the environment. The solution? Plan a a green, eco-friendly wedding. You can have a blow-out, resounding success of a wedding while you use less of the earth's resources than a normal wedding, in addition to minimizing the amount of waste that you send to the landfill.

Here are some ways to reduce, reuse and recycle as you create your dream wedding:

Visit a few local vintage clothing stores and search online to find a vintage dress. Ask your mom or an aunt if they still have their wedding dress and if they'll loan it to you for your big day.

On the flip side, donate your wedding dress after the event.

Look for bridesmaid dresses that the bridesmaids can truly wear for more than one occasion.

Use recycled paper for invitations and purchase environmentally friendly bridal party gifts.

Hire green wedding vendors. Find a caterer who buys food from local farmers. Select a photographer who strives to be carbon neutral by using digital photos.

When you choose the location for your wedding and reception, select the place that recycles and uses cloth products.

Reduce the need for transportation. Have your wedding and reception in the same location so no one has to drive.

Stay in eco-friendly hotels for the wedding and honeymoon. Baltimore offers a number of hotels that are environmentally responsible, including the Inner Harbor Fairfield, the city’s first certified-green hotel.

If possible, arrange to donate excess flowers or food.
